Providing access to education for a brighter future
We are a community-driven charitable trust dedicated to strengthening primary education by working within the very communities we serve. Through supplemental learning support, private tutors, and grassroots initiatives, we bridge educational gaps, ensuring every child receives the guidance needed to succeed.
Out of 314 blocks in Odisha, 186 (59%) are categorized as "Educationally Backward", indicating severe gaps in access to quality education. These blocks struggle with limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of trained educators, affecting student learning outcomes. Focused interventions and community-driven educational initiatives are essential to uplift these regions and ensure a brighter future for students.
The ASER 2022 report reveals a concerning drop in foundational literacy among students in Gumma, Odisha. In just four years, reading proficiency among Class V students has declined from 56.5% in 2018 to 50.4% in 2022. This downward trend highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions to improve learning outcomes and bridge educational gaps.
Mathematical proficiency among primary school students in Gumma, Odisha, is alarmingly low. ASER 2022 reports that only 26.8% of Class III students can perform simple subtraction, and just 26.1% of Class V students can solve division problems. Even among Class VIII students, the figure is only 28.3%, emphasizing the urgent need for improved teaching methods and remedial support.
At Chatasali Trust, we empower local graduates to become tutors for Class I-V students, ensuring that learning support comes from within the community. These tutors conduct two daily sessions outside school hours, providing personalized attention to help students strengthen their foundational skills.
To maintain teaching quality and student progress, experienced retired government school teachers serve as mentors, offering guidance, monitoring classroom sessions, and conducting school visits. Student progress is assessed through a structured evaluation system, starting with a preliminary assessment, followed by mid-term and final reviews—all graded by the mentors.
The overwhelming response from the community is reflected in the high student attendance, reinforcing the impact of our initiative in bridging learning gaps and fostering a brighter future.
